Check-in at
the Polls on
Election Day: The Sac County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections has added an ID scanner to the election process, which will be implemented at the June 5 Primary Election in Sac County. The optional scanner will scan the bar code on an Iowa driver’s license, an Iowa DOT issued non-driver identification card or the voter registration card issued by the County Auditor’s office.
The optional scanner is designed to allow the voter an easier, faster check-in on Election Day, while protecting the security and integrity of the voter’s identification. The election worker will not handle the voter’s ID card, but will ask the voter to simply pass the card under the scanner on the table as he or she begins the process. After the scanner has read the bar code, a declaration of eligibility will be printed for the voter to sign and a ballot will be issued to the voter.
If the voter doesn’t have the proper ID card, or chooses not to use the optional scanner, then the check-in process will be the same as usual, where the
Declaration of Eligibility needs to be filled out and processed using Precinct Atlas. If a person is not registered to vote, he or she may do so at the polling place by producing a current photo identification and proof of current residence in Sac County, (utility bill with address, bank statement, personal check with address, etc.).
The Sac County Auditor’s office will be open on Saturday, May 26th from 8:00AM until 5:00PM for voter registration and absentee voting and again on Saturday, June 2nd from 9:00AM until 5:00PM for absentee voting.
